Shelter
The Emergency Shelter(ES) is provided for those in crisis and are homeless. The ES provides immediate overnight shelter for up to 30 days. Services also provided during an individual's shelter stay include meals, counseling, job counseling, and a supportive drug/alcohol free environment. The Neighborhood Center shelter is a working shelter and collaborates with local agencies to assist individuals to find employment.
The Neighborhood Center provides Transitional Shelter for single men and women for up to 1 year. Individuals typically stay with The Neighborhood Center Emergency Shelter for 30 days and "transition" into the next level of shelter. The Neighborhood Center shelters 12 adult males and 4 adult women. Requirements include employment and being drug and alcohol free. This is a fee for service program and individuals are required to meet with caseworker one time weekly. The Transitional Shelter environment promotes a therapeutic community whereas there is mutual support.
The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia has recently opened The Lacey House to provide Emergency and Transitional Shelter for women with children. This cause holds a special place within our agency. Our women with children are provided a safe, clean and positive environment to regain a stable position. Our women and children receive counseling and life skills groups. Currently we are able to shelter two sets of women with children.
The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia provides a single family residency to provide Emergency and Transitional Shelter. Families are interviewed to determine needs and enter into the shelter for a period of time up to one year. Families are encouraged to address issues that will rebuild the solvency of the family unity. Our families meet a caseworker one time weekly to establish and review goals.
