"If it wasn't for the The Neighborhood Center, I'd still be on the streets somewhere, living in the woods or maybe not even living."
~Local Veteran~

" A little over four months ago, I stopped by the Neighborhood Center to talk to someone about government housing in the West Volusia County area. Work opportunities in the construction industry and my little remodeling business were dwindling by the day. My savings account was down to almost nothing and I knew if I didn’t sign some new contracts soon, I was looking at being homeless for the first time in my life. At 56 years old, the prospect of that thought was overwhelming. I was led into a case worker’s office and to my surprise, she informed me “that there were housing facilities right here on campus.” They were gracious enough to show me some of those facilities. I procrastinated for two more months, hoping the economy was going to get better. I finally surrendered to my circumstances. I asked the case worker to place my name on the waiting list. I called her everyday and in about one week she called me and told me she had a bed for me. The past 2 ½ months have been nothing short of a miracle. The staff on campus here are wonderful and offered hope when hope was almost lost. They have been big part of replacing fear and doubt with a renewed faith and new hope, and setting new goals. God is “opening doors” that I have been either unable or unwilling to walk through in my recent past. I am overwhelmingly grateful to be a part of the campus life here. The Neighborhood Center has helped recreate a “Heaven on Earth” that I had almost lost sight of. We cannot know what God knows, his face we cannot see; But every step is a step of faith – as he says, “my grace is sufficient of thee.” "

"I came to The Neighborhood Center in June of 2008. When I had nowhere to go, after being dismissed from treatment. The Neighborhood Center gave me a place to stay as long as I got a job and stayed clean. I was able to stay clean, and get a job which allowed me to stay past the 30 day emergency stay in the shelter. After 48 days I went to another treatment Center in Daytona Beach. After 6 months of treatment for drugs and alcohol I successfully completed that program. I called the Center to see if I could come and stay once again because the Center had always made me feel safe. I am now staying in the women’s Transitional Housing Units. The Neighborhood Center has helped me to stay clean and to believe in myself. I know that I am safe here, the Neighborhood Center will help me as long as I am willing to help myself."
